A Good Desktop OS Gets Out of Your Way

We’ve come a long way from the days of yore, where at least once a week, sometimes, more than once a day, our Desktops would randomly blue screen and crash. This still happens, but with less voracity. There are a myriad of new issues, however, that the most prevalent Desktop systems are facing in today’s world which makes one wonder, why? Why do we put up with this? Between the security issues, and the invasive technology, along with all the layered complexity, and now serious web browser issues, people still stand along side their Desktops and put up with the mediocrity.

It doesn’t have to be. I mean in some cases, work mandates our choices, but at home? At home we can certainly make our own choices. Given this, it’s good to remember there are some really good alternatives worth looking at today. When you can install a Desktop platform that just works, and is pre-installed with all the productivity tools one can imagine, why not move in that direction? For many, in the past, one reason was gaming, it was hard to game on other Desktop platforms. That’s not at all the case these days, with proton and Steam, gaming on alternative Desktops is just as good, if not better than the mainstream Desktop platforms.

So what is it about those other Desktop platforms that still have people sticking to them, as they devolve into pure chaos? Perhaps it’s the idea that there is something in there which one paid for and they feel they have to keep using the Desktop otherwise they won’t get their money’s worth? Maybe it’s familiarity? Maybe it’s just not knowing there are alternatives out there? Maybe it’s something else. That’s okay!

Just keep in mind, there are choices out there. One I highly recommend is Mint, it’s a sleek, refined, and very well thought out Desktop Operating System. It’s accessible and easy to use, and has all the things one needs to be productive right after installation. Most importantly, it’s one of those Desktops that does the job so well it truly stays out of your way, and just lets you get things done. Check out Mint here: https://www.linuxmint.com/ and if you like the platform, think about donating here: https://www.linuxmint.com/donors.php .

It’s great to have a Desktop OS choice, with some support for alternatives, we can keep it that way.
